Your Affection Really Matters
Many at times, I have caught
myself going down the memory lane of pain and sorrow. During such times, I either
blame myself or God for whatever went wrong. I always come back to my senses
when I remember my misery cannot change things that are now beyond amendment, I
have to sit up and begin to count my blessings knowing that God has blessed me
with life, children and all the other good things of life.
The enemy can destroy our joy in the
Lord; he can remove our focus from the Lord and we begin to envy the world. A sister
complained that since she repented, no man has approached her for marriage. She
warned that if she didn’t meet her husband within the next six months, she
would backslide and go back to her old boyfriends. That was the enemy trying to
set her mind and affection on things on the earth. In heaven, there will be no
marriage and to compromise her salvation for a man is a very poor exchange
rate.
While communism was the order of
the day in Russia, a brother was asked to give up his faith to spare his son
from being tortured to death, as we watched the Gestapo force his son to
swallow spoons after spoon of salt. He was tempted to give in but his suffering
son managed to call out, ‘dad it is not worth it, God deserves all our love’. ‘What
will it profit us if we get all we desire from the world and walk straight into
hell? If we appreciate God, our affection would be for things that please Him.
He deserves it.
